Slate Roofing Overview
At Bob Riddick Roofing, Inc., we specialize in the installation of a variety of roofing materials, including slate, cedar shake, and architectural shingles.
Slate roofing tiles are primarily made from natural slate, or synthetic man-made materials. We have experience installing both products! Our materials of choice are GAF TruSlate and Buckingham slate, which are authentic slate material, and DaVinci synthetic slate.
Advantages of a Slate Roof
Slate roofing material offers several advantages. Slate is one of the most beautiful and long-lasting roofing materials on the market, with an average life span of 100 years. Because of its beautiful aesthetics, shingle manufacturers make asphalt shingles to mimic the look of a slate roof. Slate is also fairly low maintenance. You will only need to clean your roof periodically. Slate offers your roof a safe fireproof option, and excellent insulation.
Disadvantages of a Slate Roof
However, some cons of slate roofs include the cost, which can be as much as four times more than asphalt roofing, and the weight of the material, which requires specific structural designs. Traditional slate can also be fractured very easily from contact due to weather or foot traffic.
